International Students’ Day will be celebrated on 17 November 2021. It was proclaimed in 1941 by the International Students’ Council in London and commemorates the student protests in Prague in 1939 against the Nazi occupation.
The demonstrations were bloodily put down. On 17 November 1939, nine activists were executed, over 1,200 students were taken to concentration camps, some are able to flee to England.
In 1942, the escaped students succeeded in making 17 November International Students’ Day. It is a worldwide event that will take place on 17 November 2021.
